District Scout Cooking Competition

I, and four other enthusiastic members of the Taceham Hundred Scout Fellowship, went to judge the Scout section's District cooking competition one Saturday afternoon last month.

The weather outside was cold but the temperature inside the venue, 2nd Thatcham's HQ, was warm and excited as a dozen teams from the Scout troops around the District gave it their all to produce the best possible meal, in a safe and hygienic way at exactly the right time for judging !

The quality, imagination and variety of all the meals was fantastic; and the standards of hygiene and safety were excellent as well. Heston Blumenthal would have been proud of the Scout's standards... Several of the judges commented that none of the meals would have been out of place in a good restaurant and having to decide between the teams was very difficult.

In the end though, a team from Hermitage won the day - just ! The judges went home having tasted some superb food including several delicious desserts. If only those who knock our young people could have seen all the enthusiastic Scouts creating such wonderful meals on a Saturday afternoon ! A highly recommended event for any member of the Fellowship who wants to lend a hand but have a great time on a Saturday afternoon."
