Taceham Hundred District

Welcome to the website of Taceham Hundred District Scouts supporting Scouting for young people aged 6-25 years in and around Thatcham in Berkshire UK.

Axford Explorers visit London

On 6th April - the day the 2010 general election was called by Gordon Brown, the Axford Explorers went to London for a tour around the Houses of Parliament.

We visited the House of Lords, and the House of Commons, standing next to the dispatch box where the Prime Minister makes his important announcements.

The day was completed with a quick visit to lots of tourist attractions including Buckingham Palace, 10 Downing Street, Trafalgar Square, China Town and most importantly Hamley's one of the worlds biggest toy shops!

District Medieval Camp

Prepare for adventure and to go back 900 years to a mystical time of knights and dragons, castles and jousting tournaments. We're holding a medieval-themed District camp at the end of May 2010. The camp will take place at Wasing Park, near Aldermaston.

Taceham Hundred District invites all its members to the camp. Cubs, Scouts and Explorers will camp for three days (Friday 28- Monday 31 May 2010); Beavers will visit for a whole day of adventure (Sunday 30 May).

The weekend's programme will revolve around a number of zones, including Alchemy, Armoury and the Forge. There'll be the opportunity to lock your leaders up in the stocks, you'll be able to shoot arrows (just like Robin Hood), and we may even see a damsel in distress at the top of the tower. Visit the blacksmith and make fire, enjoy the medieval banquet and enjoy the quest to find a dragon!

St Georges Fellowship Dinner

The Taceham Hundred Scout Fellowship enjoyed a lovely dinner at the Six Bells in Beenham on Saturday 18th April 2009 in celebration of our patron saint St George.

Elaine had done a wonderful job of organising the evening and it was great to see so many members of Fellowship there.

The food was lovely and the room had been decorated with English flags.

District Scout Cooking Competition

I, and four other enthusiastic members of the Taceham Hundred Scout Fellowship, went to judge the Scout section's District cooking competition one Saturday afternoon last month.

The weather outside was cold but the temperature inside the venue, 2nd Thatcham's HQ, was warm and excited as a dozen teams from the Scout troops around the District gave it their all to produce the best possible meal, in a safe and hygienic way at exactly the right time for judging !

District Cub Quiz

This year's District Cub Quiz was held at Thirtover House on the 16th of March

Nine teams of Cubs from around the District took part.

In addition to answering questions in the the quiz itself the Cubs had to solve 9 different puzzles and challenges in their teams and against the clock.

The winners were 2nd Thatcham with the winning team members being Darryl Butcher, Luke Payen and Troy Flitton. This team will go forward later in the year to represent the District in the County Quiz.

Everyone who took part received a certificate which was presented by the District Commissioner, Pete Kearley.

Diana Steele (ADC Cubs), who organised the event, thanked everyone for taking part and for the adult helpers who had given their time to make this a successful event.

Berkshire Centenary Ball

The Hilton Hotel in Bracknell on Saturday the 10th November was the venue for the Centenary Ball organised by the Scout Network.

Nineteen members of Taceham Hundred District attended this black-tie event; this gave us all the opportunity to dress up in DJ's and "posh-frocks", eat and dance the night away; returning home in the small hours of the morning! There was even a Chocolate Fountain for the confirmed Chocoholics!

This was the last of a series of four County-organised events for Adult Volunteers to celebrate the Centenary of Scouting.

There was a photographer on hand to capture the events of the evening and you can play the official slide-show by clicking on one of the two options below:

Were you able to spot anyone from the District?

I'll also be uploading pictures into the Centenary Ball Gallery as they become available. If you've got any, not too incriminating, photos of the Ball then please email them to me.

Bag Packing at Sainbury's

Here are some of the Cubs from 2nd Thatcham following a very successful bag packing at Sainsbury’s held on 6th October.

Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from 2nd Thatcham took part and managed to raise a magnificent £720.

Abseiling at St. Mary's Church

On the 13th October, as part of the Festival of the Arts, over 25 Scouts from the district abseiled down the church tower at St Mary’s Church in Thatcham to remove ivy growing on the tower.

Even the District Commissioner, Pete Kearley, got to have a go and show us how it should be done!!

Beavers walk across Berkshire

16 Beaver Scouts from 2nd Thatcham and their families took part in completing their leg of the Walk across Berkshire.

They walked from Woolhampton to Thatcham railway station and took this opportunity to raise money for 2nd Thatcham Beaver funds.

Earlier in the month the Fellowship had completed the section from Woolhampton to Theale.
